The Yale-China Association, a creative and rapidly expanding non-profit organization
that promotes U.S.-China educational exchange, seeks candidates for the position of
Senior Development Officer at its headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut. Yale-China
has a history of over a century of work in China and currently has programs in public
health and nursing, legal education, English language instruction, and community and
public service.
Senior Development Officer
The Senior Development Officer works with Yale-China’s management and program
staff to plan and implement successful fund-raising and communications strategies. This
is an excellent opportunity for a creative, self-sufficient person interested in working with
a dynamic international organization.
Responsibilities include:
1. Working with the staff’s development team to oversee all development and
communications efforts, including managing institutional and private donors, and
promoting the Association’s work through its publications, website, and various
promotional materials;
2. Identifying programmatic needs and researching potential funding sources.
3. Working with program staff to research and write grant proposals and reports;
4. Overseeing timely reporting to individual and institutional donors;
5. Generating solicitation letters and mailings to members, and maintaining contact
with major donors;
6. Managing donor and alumni records using Microsoft Access, and generating
reports as needed;
7. Supervising staff assistant to ensure prompt acknowledgment and recording of
all contributions;
8. Maintaining contact with program alumni;
9. Organizing occasional outreach activities, including receptions and phonathons.
The ideal candidate will have
• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree, though a Master’s is preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Some Chinese-language ability and experience living or working in China. A
China-related degree would be highly desirable, but is not required.
• A high degree of creativity and self-sufficiency

program officer for law programs to be based either at its headquarters in New Haven,
Connecticut, or its China office in Hong Kong. Yale-China has a history of over a
century of working in China and currently has programs in public health and nursing,
legal education, English language instruction, and community and public service.
Program Officer for Law Programs
The Program Officer for Law Programs will direct the Yale-China Association’s Law
Fellows Program and other initiatives related to legal education and rule of law in China.
This will include:
1. Overseeing the selection, orientation, and placement of Yale-China Law Fellows
at Chinese law schools;
2. Working directly with Chinese partner institutions to coordinate each Fellows'
placement;
3. Working closely with a board of advisers;
4. Working closely with Law Fellows, and faculty at Hunan University in Changsha,
to plan an annual law conference at Hunan University to which faculty from other
Chinese law schools and the U.S. would be invited;
5. Developing additional program initiatives;
6. Preparing reports to program donors and articles about the program for
publication;
7. Working with other staff members on fund-raising efforts for possible program
expansion, including preparing grant proposals and meeting with potential private
donors and grant makers.
The ideal candidate will have:
• a J.D. from a U.S law school. Experience with clinical legal education and/or
public interest law would be a strong plus
• familiarity with the U.S. and Chinese legal systems
• excellent oral and written English and Chinese
• previous China-related work experience
• experience in the areas of international exchange, program management, and
budget preparation
• strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
• readiness to travel to China when necessary
• a demonstrated commitment to service
• excellent administrative skills

of Program Associate for Health Programs to be based at its headquarters in New

Program Associate for Health Programs
The Program Associate for Health Programs will work under the direction of Yale-
China’s Program Officer for Health Programs to develop, implement, and support Yale-
China’s various health initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
1. Assisting and supporting current and developing programs in the health
programs portfolio;
2. Coordinating work plans for multiple on-going projects, interacting with program
partners and participants, managing communications, and tracking program
progress;
3. Organizing and attending annual Yale-China sponsored meetings and
conferences;
4. Conducting outreach with key stakeholders in Yale-China health and other
programs;
5. Conducting basic program evaluation and data analysis, including background
research and literature reviews for on-going or developing programs;
6. Drafting and editing communications and program reports, including some
English to Chinese translation;
7. Providing other research, writing and editing support for various reports, research
proposals and documents related to the health program;
8. Undertaking health program-related administrative tasks and performing other
duties as necessary.
The ideal candidate will have:
• A bachelor’s degree (an advanced degree in a China-related or health-related
field is desirable, although not required)
• Fluent oral and written English and Chinese, including strong research skills in
both languages
• Previous China-related work experience
• Experience in the areas of international exchange, program management, and
budget preparation
• Excellent administrative skills
• Strong interpersonal and inter-cultural skills

of Program Associate at its headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut. Yale-China has a

Program Associate
The Program Associate will work with Yale-China’s program staff to assist with the
implementation and management of Yale-China’s various programs. This new position
is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a recent college graduate interested in working
in international exchange and the non-profit sector.
Responsibilities include:
1. Making arrangements for short- and long-term Visiting Fellows from China,
including coordinating the visa application and invitation process for Fellows,
designing their arrival orientations, arranging their international travel to New
Haven and their housing in the city, and organizing activities to help them feel at
home in the New Haven community;
2. Helping to support the New Haven portion of the Yale-China/New Asia Public
Service Exchange, which teams Yale students with Hong Kong undergraduates
for summer internships in New Haven. This support will include arranging their
orientation, travel, and housing, as well as serving as a liaison between Yale-
China and the participants’ internship host organizations;
3. Assisting with the recruitment, selection, and orientation of Yale-China Teaching
Fellows and participants in Yale-China’s programs for Yale undergraduates;
4. Working with program and development staff to translate various reports and
promotional materials (both from English to Chinese and Chinese to English).
The ideal candidate will have:
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
• Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese
• Previous experience in a leadership or managerial role
• Excellent writing skills
• A high degree of creativity and self-sufficiency
• Strong interpersonal and inter-cultural skills
